I arrived in Zhang Jia Gang in Jiangsu province on the new High speed train. It was so fast it was truly
unbelievable. I have often made the trek by car and it is not a short ride. It takes over an hour to get there.
This time I went to visit an American Chinese friend who is working at a Stable there. The stable was to
die for. I had two fancy barns, and large indoor ring and an international competition size outdoor riding ring.
It even had a hot walker and swimming area to exercise the horses. My friend Logos had been adopted
into the family. The afternoon after I got there the whole family was attending a local Nantong Wedding party.
It was quite an experience. It was done without pomp and circumstances but lacking nothing. Each table
was served in shifts. They were covered in a transparent plastic so it could all be thrown away and all the
different drinks were put on the table like beer, Bai Jiu which is a grain alcohol, coconut milk and red bean
drink. The dishes started coming I stopped counting when there were over twenty different dishes which then
ended with a sweet and cantaloupe. There were so many dishes that there were two layers of plates on the
table. Our table were four sister my friend, on e husband and myself. All told there were over 170 people. After
our shift finished eating the pink table cloth was folded up and the next shift of guest were ushered in. Each
guest was given a red present. Towards the end the bride and groom came and toasted each table with coconut
milk as they were already a little over extended in the toasts. The Final part was the taking of pictures with the
great grandparents, the bride and groom, the grandmother and the grand children. It was a warm welcome to
a small community.
